Meet the artist: Rebecca Sheerin

For our newest Benriach release we have teamed up with Artist Rebecca Sheerin. Rebecca sees herself not only as an Illustrator and screen printer but also a storyteller with every artwork having a tale to tell.

Originally from West Yorkshire, Rebecca moved up to sunny Scotland to study at Edinburgh College of Art and after a few years she found her home in Leith. Rebecca has always been heavily inspired by the nature around her and through difficult times such as the pandemic it made her feel even more appreciative of the natural world outside. Sketching outside was something Rebecca fell in love with and is something she carries through into her work today.

In more recent times screen printing has been something Rebecca has taught herself and immersed herself in along with Riso printing which is a digital form of screen printing. This allows her to have multiple layers to her artwork and create depth and texture through using different colours and strokes.

"I aim to celebrate nature, exaggerating the bright colours and noticing the fine shapes and details."

As for the design for our Caskshare Benriach release, Rebecca wanted to encapsulate the beauty of the Speyside region the distillery is set in. As a child she spent time on her Aunts farm not far from the distillery so the design is heavily inspired from her own personal memories of peering out the window on a summers day. The connection between Caskshare, Speyside and the artist really made for the perfect combination to create this stunning print.

Rebecca wanted the visually represent the notes within the whisky making it fresh and summery, incorporating an orange tree to match up with the flavours in the whisky. The malt is reminiscent of marmalade and toast, which nicely marries up with the nostalgic energy the print perfectly translates.

Rebecca told us that this project holds a special place In her heart as it is so closely related to fond childhood memories and to be able to tell her story and share those memories through the artwork makes it that bit more heartfelt.

Caskshare's Collective Series Collaboration with Rebecca, A 10-Year Old First Fill Marasala Cask is available to reserve now.
