What could be a better pairing than an Edinburgh artist offering his Highland Warrior painting for our rare release of 35 year old Highland Park? Nothing, in our opinion. We're delighted to announce our collaboration with renowned RSA member and painter, Gordon Mitchell.
A little about the man behind the canvas
Mitchell was born in 1952 and studied at Edinburgh College of Art. He embarked on a career in teaching until becoming a full-time painter in 1989. A prolific painter, often labelled a surrealist (though he thinks not), he certainly wants his work to be thought-provoking. Inspiration can be a group of words or a topical news story, but visual puns are his most common starting points.
"I am a total romantic and use my skill and imagination to attempt to make the impossible believable using realistic techniques."
Whilst he's known for his distincy and playful paintings – Mitchell is also an active member of the art community, sitting on the board of the Scottish Arts Trust and as president of Visual Arts Scotland.
The Highland Warrior and Caskshare
With Orkney being of importance to Mitchell himself – pairing his work with this truly rare cask felt like a match made in heaven. Here's what he had to say about the collaboration:
As a yearly visitor to the Isle of Orkney and lover of the highlands, I feel honoured that one of my images is being featured on this very special whisky.
With bottles selling fast and only 50 available – make sure to buy your piece of this incredible partnership before they're all gone.
